THE PROBLEM Damp proofing is used to control the problem of rising dampness. Rising damp is the term used to describe dampness rising from the ground within walls. Post-1900 properties were originally constructed with some form of damp proof course but, over time, these systems can break down allowing rising dampness to occur. Rising damp can lead to rotting of timbers and deterioration of plasters and other wallcoverings. In addition, mould and efflorescence (white salts) may form on affected walls.
The presence of rising damp needs to be carefully diagnosed in order to ensure that this is not confused with other sources of dampness. Cannon Clarke surveyors are specially trained and are highly experienced so that they are able to undertake these inspections to determine the presence of rising damp.
THE SOLUTION Cannon Clarke can offer a variety of remedies for rising damp and our surveyors will assess which damp proofing system is most appropriate for your particular property and specific situation. Most treatments involve the injection of special-purpose chemicals into the affected walls to create a barrier between the damp ground and the dry structure above. We constantly review the treatments available to ensure that the best products are presented to our customers. We are currently recommending the use of either Aida Injection Cream or Vandex Injection Mortar although we may consider other products in specific situations. Full technical details of these materials and important notes for dampproofing clients are available in the data sheets section of this site.
As well as the introduction of a damp proofing system it is often necessary to repair plaster where this has been damaged by the presence of rising damp. For further information on this Cannon-Clarke service see Specialist Re-plastering.
Damp proofing work undertaken by Cannon Clarke is normally covered by our 30 year guarantee.
